Freehand exists to build community, foster creative growth, and create opportunities for writers of all genres and experience levels.
What began as a monthly reading series has grown into a broader initiative: a creative writing collective that facilitates connection, collaboration, education, and artistic development.
Through events, workshops, writing groups, retreats, publications, and partnerships, we help writers identify the role they want writing to play in their lives and provide meaningful opportunities to make that happen.

Our monthly gathering for writers, artists, and curious people to share work, meet new people, and be inspired.
Always free, with readings, prompts, conversations, and plenty of room to connect with the Nashville creative community.
Third Saturdays at Grandpa Bar (1501 Herman St #123, Nashville, TN 37208) from 6pm-9pm.
Writing Groups
Small, consistent groups of writers committed to developing their craft together. Meet bi-weekly to set goals, workshop your work, exchange thoughtful feedback, and build meaningful creative relationships.
Writing groups will resume in Spring 2027.
Writing Retreats
A chance to step away from the noise and make space for your writing. Spend a day surrounded by fellow creatives, writing, reflecting, sharing, and reconnecting with the work that brought you here in the first place.
